Senior Histologist and NGS Specialist
Alejandra joined Oncologica in 2015 as our Senior Histologist and NGS Specialist. In addition to the precision oncology testing of patients, Alejandra is also involved in the establishment of new assay protocols for the improved delivery of personalised medicine and undertakes staff training in the histology and molecular labs at Oncologica. Alejandra also participates in the Quality Assurance activities of Oncologica. Alejandra began her career as a Biomedical Scientist by undertaking a Diploma entitled “Advanced specific professional training cycle in anatomical pathology and cytology” based at the College of Higher Education, San Sebatian De Los, Madrid which she completed in August 2011. This was followed by a six month internship at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) where she trained and practised in the areas of histology, cytology and immunochemistry supported by an international scholarship. Alejandra was then employed for 5 years as a trainee Biomedical Scientist at UCL-Advanced Diagnostics, a high throughput clinical services laboratory, where she gained extensive experience in the areas of immunocytochemistry and molecular pathology. Alejandra’s molecular pathology expertise covers a broad range of areas including RT-PCR, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), In-situ hybridisation (ISH) and immunocytochemistry (ICC).
