Senior Biomedical Scientist

In 2016 Tiffany joined Oncologica as a Senior Biomedical Scientist, where she specialises in Next Generation Sequencing in the Molecular section. Along with precision oncology testing of patient samples, Tiffany is also involved in the development and validation of new assays for cancer detection, risk stratification and companion diagnostics. Tiffany is also involved in staff training in the molecular labs at Oncologica. Tiffany has over 6 years of Molecular Biology experience gained working in NHS laboratories. After gaining an entrance scholarship to Aberystwyth University, Tiffany gained a BSc hons in Biology in 2008. She began her scientific career as a Genetic Technologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in the Molecular Genetics department in 2010. Here she performed diagnostic testing for genetic diseases where she gained skills in DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing and automated robotics for next generation sequencing and PCR. Tiffany moved to the Cytogenetics department in 2012 where she was mainly involved in prenatal testing for chromosomal abnormalities. This involved cell culture work, including harvesting and slide making from amniotic fluid, placenta and chorionic villi samples for analysis. In 2013 Tiffany trained as a Biomedical Scientist in the Histocompatibility and immunogenetics department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Whilst working, she converted her Biology degree to Biomedical Science by completing extra modules at the University and finished her registration portfolio in 2014 to become registered with the HCPC. Tiffany performed antibody screening, crossmatching and HLA typing for patients on the organ transplant waiting list. She also participated on the on-call rota for urgent deceased donor crossmatching and HLA typing before transplantation.
